FAQs

How do I make an appointment/find out more?

If you would like to discuss arranging an appointment or have any other questions, please email me or leave a voicemail message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If it is helpful we can speak over the phone to discuss any questions about my approach or organising sessions.

What happens at our first session?

Our initial session will provide us with an opportunity to explore if working together will be helpful to you. I understand it is daunting to attend therapy with someone for the first time, therefore I try to make it as comfortable an experience as possible.  Our first meeting is a chance for me to  listen to you and understand a bit more about why you’ve come to see me, as well as for you to see how I work and discuss how therapy might be of benefit to you.  However, if we decide that I am not best placed to help you, I will do my best to offer recommendations as to where else you may be able to receive support.

What is the duration of therapy?

I offer time-limited or open-ended therapy. The duration of therapy will depend on the nature of the issues you wish to resolve. I generally recommend weekly sessions but fortnightly sessions may also be an option depending on the situation. Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes.

What about confidentiality?

Our therapy sessions will be confidential. I will not discuss or share any information about you unless I have received your permission to do so. However, I do have an ethical obligation to alert other services if I consider you to be at risk of harming yourself or someone else. Whenever possible, I will discuss this with your first.

What is your cancellation policy?

I will try my best to offer an alternative appointment time should the need arise for you to reschedule. When you must cancel, I request that you provide me with at least 48 hours' notice. If you cancel within 48 hours, you are responsible for the full session fee, unless the missed session is due to extenuating circumstances. Missed appointments will also be charged at the full appointment fee.

Do you offer skype/facetime therapy?

Yes I do offer therapy via skype or facetime.  It is my belief that the best setting for therapy is face to face, and I would always suggest us meeting first if possible. However, I am aware sometimes that personal and practical factors in a person’s life may make it difficult to do so. In such instances carrying out therapy via Skype is a viable alternative. Please contact me if you wish to discuss this further.
